The song of the summer is not just chosen based on what song had the most streams over the summer; it is a song that captures the mood and vibe of the season in just a few minutes.

There is usually a song that rises clearly above all other songs each summer. For example, it was extremely obvious that Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” was last year’s song summer due to its infectious, fun, and carefree vibe, catchy lyrics, and universal appeal to listeners of many backgrounds.

“No other song during the summer of 2024 gave more of a sunny and exciting vibe than ‘Espresso,’” said sophomore Zelie Mwumvaneza.

This summer was quite different as there were no major frontrunners. It is still questioned to this day: what was the Song of Summer 2025?

To find out what our student body believes was the song of the summer, I decided to survey a total of 40 students, ten from each grade, with many options of popular songs of the summer and see which song was chosen the most.

I gave a wide range of songs from many different artists spanning from Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild,” Morgan Wallen’s “What I Want,” Alex Warren’s “Ordinary,” and to Tate McRae’s “Just Keep Watching” to ensure the accuracy of the results.

50% of ninth grade believed the song of the summer was “Just Keep Watching” by Tate McRae, 40% of the tenth grade said “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter, 60% of the eleventh grade said “No Broke Boys” by Disco Lines and Tinashe, and 40% of twelfth graders thought “No Broke Boys” was the song of the summer as well.

In total, 32.5% of people said “No Broke Boys” by Disco Lines and Tinashe was the song of the summer with a close runner up of 30% of people saying “Just Keep Watching” by Tate McRae. It seems that it is safe to say that these two songs were what our student body believes was our summer’s anthem.

With most students choosing “No Broke Boys” as their song of the summer, I wanted to ask why they chose it.

“The song was not just catchy, it made listeners gain excitement instantly about what is to come for the summer of 2025. ‘No Broke Boys’ made it feel like summer was never going to end,” said junior Sofie Choubineh.

“‘No Broke Boys’ wasn’t extremely popular over the summer just because it was a fun tune, it was a song that best fit the vibe everyone wanted for the summer of 2025,” said junior Naira Cagle Vinci.

Do you agree or disagree with what our student body believed was the song of the summer?
