SAES graduate William White, class of 2008, was recently chosen as a finalist for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s “Reporter at Sea” contest.  The winner will travel on Royal Caribbean’s newest ship and report upon the voyage.  The winner’s stories will be posted on USA Today’s Cruise Log at cruises.usatoday.com.

The contest promotes Royal Caribbean’s ship Oasis of the Seas, which features many innovations such as an onboard zipline, a carousel, and two-story loft suites.  The ship is over 1100 feet long, sports a crew of over 2000, and weighs 220,000 tons.  Once launched in November, the ship will be the largest passenger ship in service.

White, who now attends Harvard University as an undergraduate, says he has long held an interest in cruising since he was 9 years old.  As a child, White “designed” his own fantasy cruise line.  While at St. Andrew’s, White served as co-editor-in-chief of the Mane News, and currently covers the Harvard Business School for the Harvard Crimson.

Over the past summer, White worked as an intern for the boating magazine Passagemaker.

“I’m glad that I finally have a real opportunity to get something out of this interest,” said White.

The contest required contestants to submit a creative 45-second video stating why they should be chosen as a reporter for the cruise line.  Out of these, the 10 best videos were chosen to be finalists.  The ultimate winner will be decided by a public vote on Royal Caribbean’s website.
