This school year, there are a lot of fresh faces around St. Andrew’s- many of which are teachers. For some, this is their first year teaching. Others have taught at St. Andrew’s, left, and then rejoined the St. Andrew’s community.
Ms. Chalmers, who has returned this year after taking a five year break, remarked, “One of the benefits of being a returning faculty member is seeing the school with a different lens: the five years away afforded me the perspective that I otherwise would not have had. The one word that would best describe the difference I see in the school is growth. The school obviously has grown in numbers, but it has also grown in how its serves the students and faculty. For example, the ongoing discussions between the students and faculty about All Kinds of Minds are new. Finding the best way to teach each child seems like common sense, but it is actually quite complicated and nuanced. The school recognizes this, and it invests time and resources for its faculty to learn about these pedagogical approaches and apply them.
Along with Mr. Chalmers, there are several new teachers, including Judah Brownstein, a Spanish teacher and middle school soccer coach. Mickey Belcher is also a welcome addition to the community, who teaches Math and science, and coaches middle school soccer.
St. Andrew’s also has a new Chaplain, Revered Alexander, for the 2011-2012 school year. Reverend Alexander has been instrumental in conducting chapels, and has been widely welcomed by St, Andrew’s student.
There are new lower school teachers as well, including Lisa Sidel, Laurre Reader, Timika Tyson, Amy Helms, and Jean Cohen, who teach preschool, preschool II, 1st grade, and 5th grade respectively. Jean Cohen is the new school psychologist.
St. Andrew’s is lucky to have new additions to the language department, intermediate school, athletic department, as well as many other places. Here are all the new teachers we are welcoming into our community- we hope you have a great year!
